Planned Parenthood is currently facing the fall-out of anti-abortion legislative challenges in various states. Abortions only represent a minority of the services provided by Planned Parenthood, but now the organization is losing a significant amount of funding that will affect the delivery of other services, such as cancer screenings, well woman exams, screening for sexually-transmitted diseases, and birth control.

Additionally, some of these state laws require physicians to lie to their patients (before getting an abortion) by telling them that abortion increases their risk for breast cancer. If the physicians do not say this, they lose their medical licenses. I have yet to see the research studies with these claims. At the very least, physicians are required to recite the findings of a weak, inconclusive research study. These laws apply to any physician performing an abortion in these select states—not just to physicians at Planned Parenthood.
